About us |

The Transport Research Institute (TRI), in its 50-year
history, have fulfilled important national economic assignments
related to national transport policy making and implementation.
Wide know-how integrates the TRI activities into the scientific and
research basis of the Slovak Republic, which is one of the most
important priorities of the TRI's long-term strategy.
TRI scientific and research
activities cover all modes of transport, in particular, in the
field of engineering and technology, operation, economy,
legislation, management and organisation, informatics and
automation, ecology, power system, transport infrastructure safety
and quality, transport services and tourism management, transport
policy, certification and testing in transport.
TRI was originally established
under the name the Transport Scientific and Research Institute in
Prague in 1954 and was renamed in 1956. Originally TRI branch
offices were located in Prague, Brno, Bratislava and since 1964 in
Žilina as well. TRI management moved from Prague to Žilina in 1972.
The existing TRI premises were constructed at Veľký Diel in Žilina
in 1976.
TRI was awarded the STN EN ISO
9001-2000 Quality System Certificate in 1999. On 1 November 2002
the Institute was transformed from a State-based and supported
organisation to a private joint stock company.

TRI public sector activities include: |
- Solution of complex research and development problems
connected with the SR transport policy making;
- Solution of research and development issues related to
implementation of the SR transport policy, particularly:
- Development of conceptual, analytical, technical and
economic studies for all modes of transport,
- Proposals for information and management systems,
- Statistical processing,
- Solution of transport technology systems,
- Consulting and proposals for management integration
systems,
- Standard-setting,
- Provision of scientific and technical information within
the transport sector,
- Legislation formulation in the field of transport,
approximation of the SR legislation to the EU legislation.
The company provides for activities
of the Slovak Lloyd, Ltd., linked to the requirements of the
Council Directive 94/57/EC of 22 November 1994 related to common
rules and standards for ship inspection, survey organisations and
relevant maritime administrations, and the Council Directive EEC
No. 82/714 EEC which specifies the technical requirements for
inland waterway vessels.

- New technologies of transport systems for medium-size and
large-size industrial companies,
- Proposal for power systems and materials in transport,
- Complex solution of the industrial transport, specifically
turn-key projects,
- Service network projects, transport process optimisation,
- Development of information systems for transport control
processes,
- Harmonisation of legal regulations and standards with EU
standards,
- Proposal for economic processes and their application in
transport systems,
- Proposal for the quality management, environmental and safety
systems and their implementation in businesses,
- Technical consulting and expertise for banks and insurance
companies,
- Development and implementation of diagnostic systems and
maintenance,
- Metal parts production including additional machinery
investments, car industry and engineering production
subcontractors,
- Provision of product certification pursuant to Act No
413/2000 Coll., and Act No 264/1999 Coll., through:
- Certification and inspection activities,
- Machine part strength measurements in test laboratories,
- Coating substances and road signs testing,
- Electric component testing,
- Consulting in certification and quality control systems.
